The HL7 Version 2 Vocabulary Codes, Tables and Database, and the HL7 Version 3 Vocabulary Codes, Tables, Database and computable representation (jointly termed “the HL7 Vocabulary”) are copyright © 1989-2010, Health Level Seven International. All rights reserved.

Permission is hereby granted in perpetuity, without payment of license fees or royalties, to use, copy, or distribute the HL7 Vocabulary, for any commercial or non-commercial purpose, subject to the following terms and conditions:

1. HL7 creates and maintains codes used in data exchange messages and other health related standards as needed to fulfill its mission. To prevent the dilution of the purpose of the HL7 Vocabulary of providing a definitive standard for identifying information in electronic messages and standards, users shall not use the HL7 Vocabulary for the purpose of developing or promulgating a competing standard for use in data exchange messages or other health related standards.

2. Users shall not change the meaning of any of the HL7 codes. Users shall not change the name of, or any contents of, any fields in the HL7 Vocabulary. Users may add new fields or attach additional information to existing fields in the HL7 Vocabulary as long as the meaning of the existing concepts are not changed by such additions.

3. A user may delete entries from the HL7 Vocabulary to deal with the user's local requirements. A user also may add locally defined value sets and code systems, with their associated codes and terms, to the HL7 Vocabulary to deal with the users' local requirements, provided that the added code systems and registered value sets have a sponsor other than HL7.

4. HL7 codes and other information from the HL7 Vocabulary may be used in electronic messages, without the need to include this Health Level Seven International. Vocabulary Copyright Notice and License or a reference thereto in the message (and without the need to include all fields required by Section 6 hereof).

5. Users may make and distribute an unlimited number of unmodified copies of the HL7 Vocabulary. Each unmodified copy of the HL7 Vocabulary must include this Health Level Seven International Vocabulary Copyright Notice and License, and must include the version number of the HL7 Vocabulary. This Health Level Seven International Vocabulary Copyright Notice and License must appear on every printed copy of the HL7 Vocabulary. Where the HL7 Vocabulary is distributed on a fixed storage medium (such as diskette or CD-ROM), a printed copy of this Health Level Seven International Vocabulary Copyright Notice and License must be included on or with the storage medium, and a text file containing this information also must be stored on the storage medium in a file called "HL7_license.txt". Where the HL7 Vocabulary is distributed via the Internet, this Health Level Seven International Vocabulary Copyright Notice and License must be accessible on the same Internet page from which the HL7 Vocabulary is available for download.

6. Subject to Section 1, and the other restrictions hereof, users may incorporate portions of the HL7 Vocabulary into another vocabulary database or software program for distribution outside of the user's corporation or organization, provided that any such database, software program or computable representation includes the following fields reproduced in their entirety from the HL7 Vocabulary:

codeSystemId or Code system identifier (OID),

conceptCode, and

designation or print Name

 

Every copy of the HL7 Vocabulary incorporated into or distributed in conjunction with another database, software program or computable representation must include the following notice: "This product includes all or a portion of the HL7 Vocabulary, or is derived from the HL7 Vocabulary, subject to a license from Health Level Seven International. Your use of the HL7 Vocabulary also is subject to this license, a copy of which is accessible through the following link: http://www.hl7.org/permalink/?VocabTables. The current complete HL7 Vocabulary is also available through this link. The HL7 Vocabulary is copyright © 1989-2010, Health Level Seven International. All rights reserved. THE HL7 VOCABULARY IS PROVIDED "AS IS." ANY EXPRESS OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES ARE DISCLAIMED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE."

If the database, software program or computable representation containing the HL7 Vocabulary is distributed with a printed license, this statement must appear in the printed license.

Where the database, software program or computable representation containing the HL7 Vocabulary is distributed on a fixed storage medium, a text file containing this information also must be stored on the storage medium in a file called "HL7_license.txt". Where the database, software program or computable representation containing the HL7 Vocabulary is distributed via the Internet, this information must be accessible on the same Internet page from which the product is available for download.

7. Use and distribution of the HL7 Vocabulary in ways that are not specifically discussed herein shall always be accompanied by the notice provided in Section 6 hereof. The guidelines for providing the notice that are contained in the last paragraph of Section 6 also shall apply. If a user has a question about whether a particular use of the HL7 Vocabulary is permissible, the user is invited to contact HL7 by e-mail at HQ@HL7.ORG using Subject: HL7 Vocabulary usage.

8. An unlimited number of copies of the HL7 Vocabulary Users' Guide may be made and distributed. This Health Level Seven International Vocabulary Copyright Notice and License must appear verbatim on every electronic or printed copy of the HL7 Vocabulary Users' Guide. The HL7 Vocabulary Users' Guide may not be modified, nor may derivative works of the HL7 Vocabulary Users' Guide be created, without the prior written permission of Health Level Seven International. Please contact HL7 by e-mail at HQ@HL7.ORG to request written permission using Subject: HL7 Vocabulary Users’ Guide. HL7 retains the right to approve any modification to, or derivative work of, the HL7 Vocabulary Users' Guide.

9. The names "Health Level Seven International," and "HL7 Vocabulary Work Group" and the names of those persons contributing content to the HL7 Vocabulary may not be used in a way that could be interpreted as an endorsement or a promotion of any product or service without prior written permission of Health Level Seven International.
