Dose unit of measure reference set

This reference set provides commonly used dose units of measure for clinical systems that include medicine management. This includes units of measure related to dose strength (e.g. ‘mg’, ‘mL’) and unit of use terms required to describe multi-ingredient products (e.g. ‘tablet’, ‘capsule’).

The reference set was developed as part of the Australian Medicines Terminology (AMT) Dose Based Prescribing project and is intended for use by developers whose vendor systems create medication orders.

This reference set can be used:

· within implementations that contain a Dose Unit of Measure data element or similar

· alongside medication terminologies, such as the AMT, to create dose-based orders for patient medications

· within implementations for which reference sets for specific use cases of dose-based prescribing are yet to be developed

· as the basis for developing further reference sets for dose-based prescribing.
