This document describes the requirements for an electronic health record (EHR) architecture: the architecture of a system that processes, manages and communicates EHR information. The requirements aim to ensure that EHRs support healthcare delivery and good clinical practice, are clinically valid and reliable, meet legal and ethical requirements, and facilitate data analysis.
This document does not specify the full set of requirements that need to be met by an EHR system for direct patient care or for other use cases, but the requirements defined by this document do contribute to the governance of EHR information within such systems.
This document reproduces and is identical to ISO 18308:2011.
Main sections:
- EHR business objectives, for health systems, clinical practice and citizen inclusion
- Requirements for the representation of clinical information
- Communication and interoperability requirements
- Ethical and legal requirements
- Fair information principles
