This standard specifies the operation of a walk-through screening station (WTSS) for mass testing as part of pandemic response management (for example, during the COVID-19 pandemic). In a WTSS, the screening process includes a medical interview, a temperature check and specimen collection. WTSS may involve a negative- or adaptable-pressure booth to help limit the spread of disease.

The use of WTSS can reduce the risk of transmission of the disease, relieve pressure on hospitals (which otherwise can be inundated with requests for testing), and allow hospital resources to be used for disease treatment instead of screening.
