When a patient is transported for a medical emergency to a hospital, inefficiencies and errors can occur if patient information is transmitted verbally or entered manually. The Paramedicine Care Summary (PCS) profile maps the flow of patient information from the ambulance patient record, commonly known as the electronic patient care record to the hospital electronic medical record.

This supplement to the IHE Patient Care Coordination Technical Framework sets out how ambulance-based patient assessments and paramedicine interventions can be made available electronically to hospital or emergency room staff, either when the patient arrives or in advance of the patient’s arrival to the hospital.

Main sections:

· PCS profile overview

· Actors, transactions and content modules

· Use case: emergency response for heart attack
