Pulse oximetry is a widely used procedure in healthcare settings, but pulse oximeter devices are not currently capable of sending result measurements using standard-based messaging and terminology.
This supplement to the IHE Patient Care Device Technical Framework specifies how implementers could use the existing Device Enterprise Communication (DEC) and the Communicate Patient Care Device (PCD) Data transaction (PCD-01) to exchange pulse oximetry observation sets with clinical information systems.
