The use of barcodes and other automatic identification and data capture in health care is increasing. Barcodes contain encoded data. To use these data, software systems need to decode the barcode, which is done by algorithms. This supplementary resource provides an interoperability mechanism for systems that do not implement barcode decoding algorithms to request decoding of barcode content. It describes the transactions between a system that has a barcode and needs it decoded and another system that decodes the barcode.
The resource is a supplement to the future IHE Pharmacy Technical Framework.
