Since 1999 there has been a drastic increase in opioid use, which has become a problem in many countries. In response to this, many jurisdictions have been interested in creating prescription drug repositories to collect data on prescribing and dispensing of controlled substances. Providers, pharmacists and others can use the data in such repositories to address opioid overuse, drug diversion and physician shopping and prevent accidental, life-threatening, drug-to-drug interactions. This supplementary resource integrates a prescription drug repository into an electronic medical records workflow to provide prescription drug information to physicians to they can make informed decisions on medication they should provide to their patients. This will help improve patient outcomes and prevent deadly drug-to-drug interactions.
