Contrast media is a valuable tool in diagnostic imaging. It is also used in image-guided biopsy and therapy to identify target structures, guide devices and assess therapeutic effect. However, administration of contrast can cause severe adverse reactions, including patient death, so it is important that medical record accurately captures all relevant details of the administration process.

This document describes the Contrast Administration Management

(CAM) Profile, which automates the recording and storage of contrast information. The aim of this profile is to reduce the administrative burden on staff otherwise occupied with caring for patients. The CAM transactions are analogous to those in the IHE Radiation Exposure Monitoring Profile.

Main sections:

· Contrast Administration Management (CAM) Profile

· Transactions: Store Contrast Information [RAD-138], Query Contrast Information [RAD-139] and Retrieve Contrast Information [RAD-140]

· Cross-transaction specifications and content specifications: Record Audit Event [ITI-20]

· National extensions
