Medical imaging is increasingly done outside the context of an ordered procedure. This document describes the Encounter-Based Imaging Workflow (EBIW) Profile, which ensures that images acquired in the context of a patient encounter are combined with the corresponding metadata about the patient, the encounter and the performed imaging procedure.
The EBIW Profile facilitates the management of imaging data, including its link into the patient medical record and later access procedures. The profile specifies how to integrate the devices to capture appropriate context, populate relevant indexing fields, link to related data and ensure the images are accessible and fully integrated into the medical record.
Main sections:
· Scheduled Workflow (SWF) Profile
· Encounter-Based Imaging Workflow (EBIW) Profile
· Transactions: Get Encounter Imaging Context [RAD-130], Store Encounter Images [RAD-131] and Notify of Imaging Results [RAD-132]
· Appendix O: Reason for procedure codesets
