LOINC is an international standard for identifying health measurements, observations and documents. This enables users to identify data in electronic records and exchange records between systems. A key aim of LOINC is to support the exchange and pooling of results for clinical care, outcomes management and research. LOINC is available as a downloadable database with table files and accessory files that aid implementation and use. LOINC includes measurements, laboratory tests, clinical measures, standardised survey instruments, forms and documents, as well as additional information such as synonyms, measurement units and descriptions for each concept included.
