As medicine advances, continual updating and maintenance of SNOMED CT is needed to provide the most accurate, current and useful content to clinicians, researchers and data scientists. While SNOMED International has highly trained editors to perform ongoing maintenance, the size and scope of SNOMED CT (over 350,000 active concepts) can cause delays in addressing all the content changes requested by users, as well as in meeting internal requirements to address quality issues identified during routine curation of the terminology.
