Transfusion laboratories have a critical role in patient safety.
This document outlines practice standards that assure the safety, quality and efficacy of transfusion testing, associated transfusion laboratory practice, and non-transfusion related blood group immunohaematology testing. The requirements apply to:
- laboratories providing pretransfusion and antenatal and post-natal immunohaematology testing and issuing of blood and blood products
- patient and donor testing conducted by the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood.
