This document describes the role of the Service Relation Instance Number (SRIN), which allows for the assignment of a particular healthcare process (for example, laboratory sample) to a specific patient. The structure of the SRIN is determined by the healthcare facility and is used in combination with the GSRN. The Application Identifier AI 8019 identifies the SRIN. Scanning the SRIN barcode enables verification that the right patient is receiving the right, electronically prescribed product at the right time.
