Supplement 233: Patient Model Gender Enhancements

This supplement extends DICOM to add, and harmonise with, the HL7 Gender Harmony logical model and be consistent with the HL7 normative changes. This facilitates communication between DICOM and the various HL7 systems. This adds gender, sex, and related fields and resolves problems with the oversimplified single male/female (M/F) coding. This supplement includes updates the Patient Sex (0010,0040) description to match the HL7-updated definition. It also adds optional attributes to the Patient Study Module and to various C-FIND services. These optional attributes match those in the HL7 logical model.
