Through Medicare, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (First Nations) people can receive annual health checks from their doctor - as well as follow_up services from other health professionals - that are specifically for First Nations people. These services aim to identify and treat common health conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease, that disproportionately affect First Nations people. The checks promote early detection and preventive care for these conditions.

This report, updated biennially from 2024, presents the latest data and trends in the use of health checks and follow-_up services. The data are analysed by age, sex and geography. It also presents analyses of the use of Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) items for managing chronic disease in health-check patients.
