With more than 35 years’ experience, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) is Australia’s authoritative source of health and welfare data and analysis. The AIHW provides governments, stakeholders, and the broader community with valuable evidence to inform and support better research, policy, and service delivery, leading to better health and wellbeing. 

The AIHW

  • develops nationally consistent health and welfare data standards and classifications
  • collects information and creates high quality data from multiple sources on a range of health and welfare topics relating to health and welfare – including health and health expenditure, child protection, aging, justice and safety, homelessness, suicide, mental health, and many more
  • links data from multiple sources to deliver new insights and provide better understanding of the complex interactions people have with health and welfare services
  • publishes products that provide a holistic picture of health and welfare in Australia and how this is changing over time.
