About 1,000 maternity models of care are used across 251 maternity services. These fall into 11 model categories. This report examines the different models of care available across Australia in 2023, and the continuity of care within these models. It also uses Queensland perinatal data as a case study to explore, for the first time, the number of women using different models of care in Queensland, whether the models vary with maternal characteristics, and selected outcomes for mothers and babies by model of care. The report is a companion to Maternity models of care in Australia.
