This HL7 Electronic Health Record System Public Health Functional Profile (PHFP) identifies functional requirements and conformance criteria for public health clinical information collection, management and exchanges that include specific public health programs (domains). It covers the domains of Vital Records; Early Hearing Detection and Intervention; Chronic Diseases (Cancer Surveillance); Public Health Laboratory Interactions (Orders and Results); Occupational Disease, Injury, and Fatality; Health Statistics; Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism; Birth Defects; and Adverse Events.
The PHFP addresses the need to incorporate information exchange between direct care and public health settings when implementing healthcare information technology solutions. Meeting this need will reduce the burden for direct care providers to report to public health stakeholders and will improve the completeness and quality of data that public health agencies have available for delivery of direct care, care coordination between providers and agencies, and population-based disease surveillance.
Main sections:
· PHFP: objectives and usage
· Definitions, assumptions, and environment
· Organisation of the EHR-S Functional Model
· Conformance clause
· PHFP domains
· Public health functional requirements and conformance criteria for EHR systems
· Function list
