This document provides a specification for an application acting on behalf of a patient to access information about the patient from a clinical records system (for example, a clinical care provider or national health records system) using a Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) Release 4 based application programming interface (API).
The International Patient Access (IPA) specification is designed to help patients access their data. The IPA profiles and the SMART App Launch specification can support clinician-facing applications and backend access to patient records. Applications that conform to IPA can access basic patient details, problems and conditions, medication orders and usage, immunisation history, allergies and intolerances, vital signs, lab results, and other clinical observations, as well as clinical notes and other patient documents.
