This document describes how to manage the various values needed to provide global uniqueness for ISO object identifiers (OIDs) used for patients, documents, providers and other entities in clinical documents or messages. It is intended to guide how to develop processes to manage OID values used in the HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) Release 2.0 and HL7 Version 3 healthcare information technology messaging specifications.
