The ordering behaviour of clinicians can significantly affect the quality and cost of patient care. This ordering service interface provides a consistent, structured methodology for ordering a variety of services and products, including, but not limited to, pharmacy, nutrition, radiology and laboratory items. The ordering service supports interactive applications used by healthcare providers, and service-to-service interactions as might be required by a clinical decision support system. The service provides common governance and orchestration for the full order lifecycle, from a simple order to assign a bed to a complex chemotherapy regimen involving multiple courses of treatment over many months.
